Greetings Hoarders and Mis-adventurers!
Welcome to the epic quest for loot and glory! Don your armor and draw your sticks and swords, for yonder you will find draconic encounters and booty too shiny to imagine! But beware, the encounters in this dungeon are not for the weak minded or unprepared. Here there be dragons, and they are hungry! (Or at the very least confused about the sudden influx of Derpies at their door) Where will this quest take you? Follow along and let's find out! Below you will find the official Weirdling Tribe Adventurer's Guild statement about what to expect...and a bit of a tale to quench your thirst for such things.
Inside the tavern (Where all good mis-adventures begin)...
You glance up at the crooked sign swinging precariously from a rusty chain above you. "The Rusty Sword" is engraved upon the rotten wood. It's the tavern the pamplet—a crinkled piece of paper shoved into your hand by a hooded figure a mere two blocks and one hour past—told you to visit. Curiousity had drawn you here against your better judgement, for the pamplet promised riches and glory to the brave and unweary.
As you push open the creaky door which moans upon rusty hinges, you are met with boisterous songs and loud laughter. But what amazes you most is the assortment of people gathered within the dilapidated tavern. Surely this building wasn't up to code? Nor was the number of sweaty bodies squished into the small space as waiters ran from one over-full table to another; beer and warmed milk swished from wooden mugs as they swerved to avoid rumbunctious patrons.
You enter the tavern, drawn to a large sign board with several weathered and worn bounty posters sticking to the scarred wood where one too many daggers and darts had left their mark.
"Are you here to join the party?" A little voice asks to you left.
You look over...then down...to large wide eyes filled with innocence and wonder. The little draconic creature smiles up at you - at least you think it's a smile.
"I suppose," you mutter non-committedly.
Its grin widens as it takes your hand and pulls you to a table of two more little Derpy dragons. All outfitted with various adventuring gear.
"Yay! You found us a real adventurer!" One of the derpies raises its wooden sword in a cheer of excitement as you are pulled down to the sticky bench beside the first derpy.
"I—" your words are cut off by another Derpy wrapping its chubby arms around you and looking up at you with such big eyes, that you find it hard to deny their almost childlike enthusiasm. You have adventured before, albeit though the pages of books and stories. That should count for something, right? At the very least, you raised the average inteligence score around the table by a factor of 10, if not more.
The third Derpy pulls out a stained scrap of paper and presses it in front of you. "This is what we are going after. The Weirdling Tribe Guild said that any brave enough to get a single red scale from Big Red will get this shiny little book!"
You glance at the scrap piece of paper. Upon it is a rare golden tome. And to get the reward, you must complete three of the encounters within the dungeon set out by the guild.
"It's pretty," you admit. "But what will you have to face to get the reward?" You glance around the tavern, noticing the wide variety of skilled and much better outfitted adventurers gathered. If you wanted this treasure, you'd be better off trying to team up with them. But then you look down at your little friend, the first one who pulled you to the table. And you find you can't say no to those little eyes... If you abandon them now, these little Derpies will be lost. And, while they may not be the obvious choice, they could use your guidance at the very least.
"Oh, nothing too scary. We are brave Derpies!" The second one with the wooden sword proclaims proudly, grinning up at you, pulling out another crinkled piece of parchment.
You stare at the image of "Big Red"—an actual ancient red dragon. Were these Derpies insane? You wonder. They wouldn't last a minute!
You attempt to dissuade them from going for several minutes, but you have never encounterd creatures as stubborn as these Derpies. Their passion and thirst for adventure endears you to them, and you find yourself swayed to join them. They need you, desparately.
"Fine," you reluctantly cave. "But, if we encounter anything dangerous, we run? No bravado in the face of certain death, deal?"
The Derpies look amongst each other and then at you, each wearing the most adorable grin as they nod vigorously. You slap your forehead, what have you gotten yourself into?
After consuming what you assume will be your last meal in this realm, you and the Derpies set off to the cave entrance marked on the map one of the Derpies swiped from another adventurer's pocket. At least their cuteness made them less suspect when a brawl broke out once the adventurer noticed it was gone.
"Well, that's our que to leave," you mutter, pushing up from the sticky bench. The Derpies follow you out the tavern. Gathering your party, you venture forth. To the unknown, to adventure, and most certainly to your death...
